About the Position

Cobalt is looking for a Technical Writer to join our team. The Technical Writer will collaborate with management, project managers, support agents, stakeholders, and other team members to document and maintain requirements, procedures, processes, and other related content in an agile team environment. We are looking for someone who demonstrates superior writing, editing, and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail. This role also includes opportunities to contribute to customer projects and software releases. As a Technical Writer, you will be set up for success with a career plan that includes specialization in Microsoft Dynamics and Cobalt software, and a clear career path towards becoming a Software Product Specialist.

This is a full-time hybrid remote position that requires that candidates work onsite at our headquarters in Crystal City (Arlington), Virginia, for an average of 2 days per week in order to help encourage teamwork and collaboration. Cobalt mandates that all employees are vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus therefore if hired, candidates would be required to provide proof of vaccination.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Writes and edits technical documents including reference manuals and product articles
  • Writes and edits procedural documentation such as user guides and workflow articles
  • Meets with agents, developers, and managers to learn about specific products or processes
  • Research product releases and client walkthroughs to fully understand the product
  • Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding
  • Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines
  • Creates screenshots, diagrams, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process
  • Adheres to and updates in-house style guide
  • Gathers feedback from customers, peers, and managers to improve technical documents
  • Provide training to customers and/or internal staff

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Answer end-user support calls and emails
  • Research and troubleshoot cases
  • Research new functionality or solutions to unique customer requests
  • Escalate cases to development for research

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field
  • 1 – 3 years of related work experience
  • A portfolio of technical writing samples for review
  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude
  • Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent writing and grammatical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to write user-friendly, engaging copy about highly technical subjects
  • Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently
  • Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

The Technical Writer position pays an annual base salary of $70,000 – $77,500 (based on experience).
