How can we help?

Below is a list of known issues, fixes and workarounds for current and previously released versions of Dynamics CRM Snapshot. We will be continually updating this list as we find additional useful hacks or make fixes to Snapshot and will post updates to our Twitter and Facebook accounts. Please feel free to reach out to us if you find an issue that isn’t on this list. We rely on our users to help us make CRM Snapshot better and so far we’ve gotten amazing feedback from the community, a few of which are mentioned below. Thanks!

Cloning Closed Quotes Gives an Error

Identified: 8/31/2015 version 2.1.1

This issue was identified when cloning a closed quote. The issue is because updating a Quote to a closed state requires a specific SDK message instead of the standard SetStateRequest that’s used for almost all other entities. This bug is still outstanding but will be fixed in an upcoming release.

Workaround:

The cloned quote cannot transition from Draft to Closed, it needs to be activated first. To clone a closed quote, exclude the status of the quote to create a new quote, then update the quote status as another step in the workflow (details can be found here: Automatically Update Cloned Records with Output Parameters)

Cloning Closed Opportunities Gives an Error

Identified: 8/31/2015 version 2.1.1

Fixed: 9/1/2015  version 2.1.2

This issue was identified when cloning a closed opportunity. The issue is because updating an Opportunity to a closed state requires a specific SDK message instead of the standard SetStateRequest that’s used for almost all other entities.

Rollback from Audit History Preview ocassionally clears existing fields.

Identified: 8/6/2015 version 2.1.0

Fixed: 8/6/2015  version 2.1.1

This issue was identified after the release of 2.1.0 and manifests itself when Previewing an Audit Record from the Audit Rollback section in Snapshot. In certain cases the “Rollback” button is being displayed instead of the “Merge” button. Clicking the Rollback button causes existing fields in records that already exist to be wiped out. If you experience this issue you can restore the previous data by finding the audit record that was created during the rollback and following the steps below under Workarounds. We’ve corrected this issue in the latest release available from the download page. To see if you have the version with the fix you can look at the version number of Snapshot Solution under Settings -> Solutions in CRM. If the version number is 2.1.1 or greater then you have the fixed version.

Workarounds:

It is recommeded that you install 2.1.1 hotfix from the download page. To workaround this issue, instead of clicking the Rollback button from the Audit History Preview select the audit record in the list view and choose Migrate. Once the audit record is migrated to Snapshot you can open the Snapshot record and choose Merge. The issue here is that the Preview is incorrectly allowing Rollback when it should always be merging with the existing data. If you see the Rollback button on the Preview form it is recommended that you take the steps above. We have released a fix in 2.1.1 that is available for immediate download from the download page.

Random failures running configurable copy against certain system records in CRM 2015.

Identified: 7/20/2015 version 2.0.0

Fixed:

Workarounds:

This issue was found by the Snapshot team following the soft release of Snapshot 2.0.0 and was identified as a conflict with the built-in CRM Activity Feed plugins. It was first noticed on a deep copy workflow run against multiple contact records. After disabling the Activity Feed plugins, temporarily, we were able to get the workflows to succeed. The specific error from CRM was “There is no active transaction. This error is usually caused by custom plug-ins that ignore errors from service calls and continue processing.” More about the solution can be found here. (NOTE: We are still working on this issue and providing this solution as a possible workaround. We welcome your feedback if you find additional issues with this workaround, but make no guarantees on potential side-effects that may result.)

Timeouts / random failures occurring in configurable copy / backup workflows run on many records.

Identified: 7/20/2015 version 2.0.0

Fixed:

Workarounds:

This issue was identified by the Snapshot team thanks to a user who contacted us by email following the soft release of CRM Snapshot solution version 2.0.0. The issue manifested itself when copying / backing up multiple records that included child relationships. However, when the workflows were run on the records individually they would succeed. There are a couple of possible workarounds.

1. Reduce the number of records to run the workflow against simultaneously.

2. We’ve isolated part of this issue to the sandbox plugins in CRM. Our testing revealed a huge increase in performance when the Snapshot plugins were not registered in isolation. If you are running up against the two minute timeout in your custom workflows and have privileges to update the Snapshot plugin via the plugin registration utility you can set the Isolation Level to None on the plugin assembly (On-Premise Only) and retest. Here is a good article on sandbox plugin performance.

(NOTE: We are still working on this issue and providing this solution as a possible workaround. We welcome your feedback if you find additional issues with this workaround, but make no guarantees on potential side-effects that may result.)

Huge thanks, for the fantastic detective work and feedback provided by our user Justin Thomas from DC Two in Australia.

Picklist values not cleared during rollback.

Identified: 7/1/2015 version 1.2.0

Fixed: 7/19/2015 version 2.0.0

This issue was identified by the Snapshot team following the 1.2.0 release and is resolved in the current version. The issue manifested itself when rolling back snapshot records that had null values in picklist fields that had since been set to a value. During rollback Snapshot should have cleared these fields but didn’t.

Invalid Argument: Changing security attributes is not allowed in stage 20 plugins. (fixed)

Identified: 7/1/2015 version 1.2.0

Fixed: 7/19/2015 version 2.0.0

This issue was identified by a user of CRM 2015 following the 1.2.0 release and is resolved in the current version. The issue manifested itself in CRM 2015, specifically, and was causing rollback of Snapshots to fail. For more info on the specific issue see here. Thanks to Darijo Miličević from Croatia for pointing out the issue and providing great feedback on the potential issue.
